Andrew Blackwell - Head of Development

Head of Development

Andrew leads on Tern Development, with a particular focus on (constantly) generating new ideas, writing proposals, producing sizzles and preparing pitches for commissioners.

He joined Tern in 2010 from a career in advertising and has stayed in Development throughout. His climb from producer to head of department has been helped by a succession of UK and International wins, largely in his key focus area – Specialist Factual.

Key wins include: "Morocco to Timbuktu: An Arabian Adventure" (BBC TWO); "Flights From Hell: Caught On Camera" (Channel 4); "Vinnie Jones – Russia’s Toughest" (Nat Geo); “Britain’s Wildest Weather” and “World’s Wildest Weather” (Channel 4); "Air Ambulance ER" (Sky One); "Rivers with Jeremy Paxman" (C4); "Britain At Low Tide" (C4); "The Small Animal Hospital" (C4); "Cybercrimes with Ben Hammersley" (BBC World News and Netflix); "One Day In..." (BBC World News) and "The Harbour", "The Mountain", "The River" and “The Forest” (all BBC ONE Scotland).

He currently has developments in production with Nat Geo, More 4, Channel 5, Channel 4 and BBC FOUR.
